Cloudbet Blocks US Players

Bitcoin sportsbook and casino CloudBet has begun to prohibit US-based bettors from accessing its live casino service since June 15, even those that meet the casino Bitcoin age limit and restrictions.

Upon visiting the live casino page on CloudBet through an American IP address, an error message will be displayed, stating that the country from which they access the gambling site is blocked and that players are advised to contact support instead.

While online players are restricted to wager and experience real-time gambling in this casino, Bitcoin sports betting enthusiasts can still place bets on a variety of sports on CloudBet, even if they are from the US.

Betting online using fiat currencies has been regarded as an illegal activity in the US ever since, which explains the inability of casino enthusiasts living in the said country to engage in any gambling services offered by traditional casinos operating on the web.

However, in the case of Bitcoin gambling, Bitcoin and alternative cryptocurrencies are not legally considered as a currency yet, which technically exempts them from the US anti-gambling laws. Nevertheless, the legality of cryptocurrency gambling still remains to be unclear.

Many speculate that the move of this Bitcoin casino, therefore, could be a result of the varying views on the legal aspect of Bitcoin gambling as CloutBet has previously no problems with the acceptance of US online bettors.

Although the Bitcoin gambling site has blocked players who use American IP addresses, bettors can still bypass the IP filter via a proxy service as has been done before.

Moreover, they will not have any trouble depositing and withdrawing bitcoins because this digital currency goes through a decentralized network as opposed to using real currencies, which present problems in transferring funds when using a proxy service.

CloudBet, which was launched in 2013, welcomed Bitcoin bettors from the US and allowed them to enjoy all the online gambling services it offers up until its recent decision to block them from its live casino service.
