Gaming Giant Zynga to Accept Bitcoins

ZyngaZynga, one of the widely acclaimed social game makers, is the latest merchant and the first gaming giant to accept Bitcoins. The crypto-currency will be used as a payment option for purchasing tokens for virtual goods on the web versions of FarmVille 2, CastleVille, ChefVille, CoasterVille, Hidden Chronicles, Hidden Shadows and CityVille.

Instead of making an official announcement, the company posted the news on Reddit bitcoin community. They have affirmed that a ‘bitcoin test’ will be directed in partnership with BitPay, one of the most popular bitcoin payment processor.

“We wanted to share with the r/bitcoin community that Zynga Inc. (NASDAQ: ZNGA) is now conducting a Bitcoin test with BitPay (, a leading Bitcoin service provider, in select web games,” Zynga wrote in a post on Reddit.

Zynga’s decision to make this bitcoin test possible came after seeing the rising popularity of bitcoins all over the globe. It is no secret that bitcoins offer numerous attractive points compared to other more established currencies. With this digital currency, anyone can make financial transactions anonymously in addition to the fact that sending and receiving payments are made possible in just few seconds. Lastly, the transaction fees tend to be lower than what conventional payment methods offer.  As stated on Zynga’s Reddit post:

“Zynga is always working to improve our customer experience by incorporating player feedback into our games. We look forward to hearing from our players about the Bitcoin test so we can continue in our efforts to provide the best possible gaming experience.”

So far, feedbacks from the community have been positive. As a matter of fact, there are users who have satisfyingly claimed that their transactions are speedy and successful. Anthony Di lorio, a YouTube user, even made an instructional video showing how convenient and advantageous one-click payment with bitcoins at Zynga is.

Recently, bitcoins made another revolutionary break after crossing the threshold of $ 1,000 mark last November. The digital currency even hit a high of $ 1, 213.42, but dropped to $ 435.21 after BTC China stopped accepting new deposits in Yuan. However, this ‘Zynga move’ is believed to be the main reason behind the comeback of bitcoin’s price rise.

On the other hand, it is known that Zynga has been on the harder times with an enormous drop in users since recently, most consumers flock to newer gaming experiences offered by other publishers like Supercell and Given this, adding bitcoin acceptance in their features will definitely give the company a ‘polish’ to boost their reliability among players as well as bitcoin users.
