Pornhub Announces Verge Crypto Payment Partnership

It’s one of the most heavily visited websites on the Internet, with some 115 million visitors across its network sites every single day. Now Pornhub has embraced cryptocurrency for payments, with a potentially massive impact on awareness and familiarity for digital currencies worldwide.

The adult entertainment company, which serves visitors around the world through multiple different websites, announced it is to accept Verge payments, following an agreement with the cryptocurrency’s backers.

The token will be accepted as a form of payment for Pornhub’s premium services, as well as for a number of other purchases across their network. The partnership is to be marked with promotional events in New York and Silicon Valley, which will herald the arrival of Verge on the Pornhub platform.

Corey Price, the VP of Pornhub, welcomed the partnership, describing it as a significant achievement for the adult entertainment industry, as well as another milestone to mainstream acceptance for cryptocurrencies like Verge.

“Not only is this an exciting announcement for us and the adult entertainment industry, it’s exciting for the crypto space. History has proven that the adult entertainment industry plays a critical role in adoption for innovative technology. We saw that with VHS, Beta Max, credit card payment icons and, most recently, VR goggles. We expect to see widespread adoption of crypto and blockchain in short order.”

“We’re extremely excited to offer our fans the ability to use crypto and think Verge, with its focus on anonymity, is the best option – whether for privacy, convenience or both.”

Verge is a cryptocurrency which aims to put privacy at the heart of each transaction. Unlike bitcoin, which is only pseudonymous, Verge prizes privacy and anonymity ‘as a choice’, and is powered by an open source community of developers.

In addition to being a significant partnership for the cryptocurrency, which still trails the like of bitcoin and ether in name recognition, analysts have argued the move is an important landmark for legitimizing cryptocurrencies more broadly.

Reporting the story on, analyst Brian Barrett addressed the significance of the development.

“The significance of the move lies less in the marriage of cryptocurrency and pornography than it does in the legitimization of cryptocurrency as tender generally. After all, Pornhub’s not just the largest site of its kind. It’s one of the largest sites on the web, period.”
