‘Satoshi’s Treasure’ Puzzle Offers $1 Million Prize To Lucky Gamers

Satoshi's Treasure

A new bitcoin-themed alternative reality game known as Satoshi’s Treasure has been launched. Participants now have the chance to win up to $1 million in bitcoin, provided they can find hidden private keys.

Satoshi’s Treasure Hunt

Various locations worldwide now have hidden private keys, thus creating a global treasure hunt for the private keys. But in order to succeed, players have to ‘collaborate and improvise’ to work out the locations of these hidden private keys before anyone else. The game appears to be a Bitcoin version of Ready Player One. As the game’s co-creator and spokesperson, Eric Meltzer, explains:

“A lot of people have joked we’re doing the bitcoin version of Ready Player One. The game is going to have a leaderboard to show which teams have the most keys.”

The keys to the bitcoin wallet containing the $1 million have been divided up into 1000 pieces. Furthermore, at least 400 segments are required in order to start moving funds. The game itself has no rules, and players are free to collect, use and trade clues in any way they wish to get to the money.

Some 6,000 players have already signed up to participate in the game, according to Meltzer. Meanwhile, both the online and offline environments have a number of hidden puzzles.

“There are some clues that are very scavenger hunt-y, and clues where it’s purely logic puzzles or math problems.”

Satoshi’s Treasure App in the Making

The company behind the game, Primitive Ventures, said there were plans in the works for an app. This would then allow players to keep track of clues and game updates. The app could also be used for sponsorship and brand partnerships in future, according to Meltzer.

The game is a fun way of introducing new people to bitcoin. It also helps educate players about the inner workings of the cryptocurrency and private keys.

Private keys help secure the wallets involved in Satoshi’s Treasure, as is the case with all cryptocurrency wallets. By interacting with private keys in a bid to unlock the funds, players gain first hand experience of how this feature of cryptocurrency works.

According to Meltzer, the audience for the game currently skews towards a younger demographic. However, there are plans to help introduce the game to a wider audience in future.
