Pornhub Expands Cryptocurrency Payments

in Bitcoin & Cryptocurrency published on 27, June 2018

Pornhub has announced the expansion of the range of cryptocurrencies supported for payments on their site, with Zencash and Tron joining their existing payment options.

The world’s largest adult entertainment site, and one of the most trafficked sites in the world with over 60 million visitors a day, the decision marks a significant step forward in the platform’s embrace of cryptocurrencies.

Pornhub first announced support for cryptocurrency payments back in April, following the announcement of its partnership with Verge, a cryptocurrency with a particular focus on privacy.

With the decision to extend support to Tron and Zencash confirmed by a spokesperson this week, Pornhub will now be open to several alternative ways of paying for content and subscriptions across their network of sites.

Pornhub vice president Corey Price said the move was an important step for Pornhub in responding to user preferences, by allowing consumers flexibility over the payment methods used for their on-site transactions.

“Here at Pornhub, it’s important that we cater to our users’ ever-changing payment preferences and, as such, that means accepting cryptocurrencies as a payment method, which provide users with anonymity and security. We look forward to continuing to stockpile our arsenal of cryptocurrencies, providing our fans with more payment methods than ever before. Hopefully we are the precursor for widespread adoption across the industry.”

One of the founders of Zencash, Robert Viglione, echoed these sentiments, suggesting that the including of Zencash provides users with “the ability to pay for adult entertainment privately without fear of exposure.”

Far from being the end of Pornhub’s cryptocurrency ambitions, the company has said it intends to offer support for a number of other cryptocurrencies in future, as it hopes to set the trend for companies in the adult entertainment space.

The development is being hailed as potentially significant in fostering more mainstream interactions with cryptocurrency, which many see as a precursor to the technology reaching its full potential.

As one of the most visited websites on the internet, with a truly global reach, the decision from Pornhub to back cryptocurrencies could well influence others to follow suit.
