Addictive Game ‘2048’ Accepts Bitcoin Donations

Fans of the latest addictive game online can now show their appreciation and support by making donations to the creator behind ‘2048’ in the form of bitcoins, the world’s most popular digital currency.

19-year old Italian creator Gabrielle Cirulli recently announced that he has no plans to monetize the game, but he is accepting Bitcoin donations for his successful game instead.

“I think it’d be unfair to profit from a concept that I didn’t invent,” said Cirulli, who published the game on GitHub in March this year.

2048 Bitcoin Donations

2048, which is dubbed as the Internet’s currently most addictive game online, is an HTML5 game and is arguably the most played game on a mobile or desktop browser for free with an estimated number of times played at 50 million since its launch.

However, Cirulli based the game on previously released Android and iOS games like ‘1024’ and ‘Threes,’ which share the features of a math-based puzzle, explaining the rationale behind his decision to keep 2048 available and playable for anyone without charging for payment.

“My strategy is to support the game on the site,” he added; “It’s open source, so the original site is the only place where I have authority.”

Avid players of 2048 can easily send their Bitcoin donations to the creator by navigating to bottom part of the GitHub page, where Cirulli’s receiving Bitcoin wallet address is posted. For Bitcoin newbies, knowing how to get bitcoins is vital, but there are plenty of ways to do so. Some sites even offer free bitcoins.

Given the fact this game is free of charge, online players are warned against purchasing mobile apps that claim to be the official 2048 app in both Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store.

2048 is a sliding block puzzle, but instead of forming visual combinations like images, its objective is to strategically add up numbered tiles to form a sum of 2048 by simply moving the tiles in the up, down, left, and right directions.
